A very kind lady on Freegle has given me an ancient (1950's) electric sewing machine. It needed some tlc from Sam but now seems to be running ok. A slight quirk is it is operated with your knee not your foot - a knack I have yet to master. However it produces a very nice neat even stitch and I will be able to finish my table runner. Here is an old advert for it and a picture from the internet of how it looks - mine is a little more worn. The case makes into a work table - they thought of everything in the old days!

now that is a classic...what a great idea with the case cos it is very annoying when sewing and material snags on table etc....you will soon get used to the knee action!!
