Decorating The Hall

This is an ongoing project that we hope to have finished by Christmas - but that might turn out to be a bit ambitious, we shall see.

All of the woodwork n the hall was painted with brown varnish - very badly! It was also chipped and scratched. We decided we would strip it off back to bare wood - so Sam tackled the job! It was hard work and needed doing a little at a time - her hands ended up very sore!

Once the wood was all stripped down Sam gave it a sand and I dusted it and wiped it down ready for priming / undercoating.

Once dry I put on the first coat of satinwood - I used a small roller to give a good finish.

The hall is so light now!

We left the carpet down as no carpet with the toddler and the dogs would be a nightmare - but we have had a quote of £350 for a new one - we are going to look at samples on Saturday to make a final choice.
There is still a lot to do though before we are ready for the carpet - upstairs skirting to be painted, walls and ceiling to be painted and any edges of varnish under the carpet to be removed and painted so they don't show. Sam is also going to take the old skirting off in the hall and replace it - but that can be done after the carpet has gone down.
