Holiday in Sicily

View from balcony

Sam and I had a lovely break in Cefalu in Sicily. The weather was beautiful, hotel lovely and we enjoyed relaxing, swimming and having a siesta every day.

All inclusive is definitely the way to go in Europe at the moment as things are expensive and the £ is so weak. A gold coloured wristband ensured free drinks, bar snacks and ice-cream whenever we wanted!

The hotel transfer took two hours - but we had a break after an hour at a service station. On the journey there were spectacular views of Mount Etna - who had erupted about three weeks before we were there. The locals call Mount Etna 'she' as they think she is like a fiery Sicilian woman.

Cefalu is a lovely old Sicilian town with narrow cobbled streets and beautiful old buildings. Many of the alleyways lead down to the sea and the town is surrounded by high mountains and rocks. Cars and mopeds are permitted through many of the narrow streets - which made walking hazardous at times. There are many churches and a cathedral in Cefalu as Catholicism is still the main religion - and many little niches with candles burning in random places throughout the town.

I saw a bride and groom having photos taken - but I wondered if this was publicity shots to promote weddings in Sicily rather than a real wedding. I also saw a young boy of about ten catch a squid with his bare hands and pull it out of the water, to the cheers of the watching crowd.

Sicily is definitely a beautiful place to spend a holiday!
