Nice Sister

What a nice sister Sam is! Pip has to wear black shoes for clinical practice and only has ones with heels that are not very comfortable to stand in for long periods. Sam took off the flat black ones she wears for work and lent them to pip until Pip can go shoe shopping - how sweet is that? Sam came clip clopping home last night and went to work in trainers today.

Fifth Anniversary

Today is the 5th Anniversary of our Civil partnership. I cannot believe how quickly those five years have gone - or how many changes have taken place since then!
Traditional 5th wedding anniversary gifts have a theme of wood.
A contemporary or modern 5th anniversary gift has a theme of silverware.
The flowers associated with the 5th anniversary are Daisies.

We had a lovely evening with a nice meal courtesy of Sam (and M&S), some wine followed by a good film - Sherlock Holmes, although a couple of years old now we hadn't seen it.

Front Garden Makeover - Phase 2

I did actually finish phase 2 of the front garden makeover a couple of weeks back - but forgot to blog pictures, so here they are.
I edged the bed with some old roofing tiles that I got from freecycle.

Boodle likes to check out my work!

Planted up - things should fill out quickly to create a riot of colour - well that's the plan

I have added a few more plants that I have bought at car boots since I took this picture. I also plan to underplant with bulbs for the Spring.

Bank Holiday Monday

Sam and I have enjoyed our bank holiday Monday - we went to a little car boot then had a carvery lunch. We then decided we would go to the cinema to see the Inbetweeners. Watch a movie clip here. It was very funny and we enjoyed it very much.
Spent the evening relaxing at home.

Reading Festival Fun 2011

Spoke to Sam last night - she had just woken up and was looking for her friends. She said they had been having a good time and that the mud had dried out a bit as the rain had eased off on Saturday.
She said her bed had a rock in the middle of it and that a quarter inch of matting didn't really add to the comfort at all. However she was toasty in her sleeping bag.
The Reading Festival website posted this picture of part of the camp-site - I wonder if one of these is Sam's tent!
These are Kate's pictures from Reading

Champneys Break

Charlotte and I had a lovely long weekend at Champneys in Henlow Grange. We had a massage, thalassotherapy, hair cuts and our nail done. We have swum, sat in the spa pool, enjoyed the sauna and laconium. The food was delicious, the gardens beautiful and the service for the whole weekend was fantastic. I would recommend a stay to everyone - we are so relaxed now and ready to enjoy the bank holiday Monday!

I am sure Charlotte and I will appear in the hall of fame soon!

Reading Festival

Sam set off today for Reading festival 2011 with her friends. The weather was a bit wet to start with but when I spoke to Sam this evening she said it had stopped raining just before they erected the tent. I hope she has a great time - I am off to Champneys with Charlotte, different sort of break altogether !

Cake stand

I bought a pretty blue pressed glass plate from the carboot. It was marked up at 30p but the guy selling said I could have it for 25p. It has a hole in the middle so was obviously once part of a cake stand.A quick look on ebay and I found a replacement handle which arrived within two days and cost £2.70. I now have a pretty and functional cake stand - just need to do some baking so I can use it!
I googled and found this picture - this is how it must have originally looked, or maybe like this one! It is described as a Davidson, art deco blue glass 'Blackberry Prunt' cake stand.
