Decorating the Living Room

Sam decided we should get on a mission to decorate the living room before Christmas. The first job was replacing the horrible skirting board - half of which was missing anyway! Sam did a great job putting the new boards in place - we bought the skirting from GumTree a while back for a really good price.

The original skirting - what there was of it!

Lots of filling needed!

Some complicated angles too!
I painted the ceilings and coving in both halves of the room then we were ready to start painting the walls! We chose-

After much debate!
The antique ivory only needed one coat but we had to do two coats of the mushroom to cover the existing navy blue!

Ready to paint!

Sam painted the mirror in white satinwood to match the woodwork.
From this -
To this!

She also painted the wall lights to match the wall.

The radiator cover, which Sam had altered to fit a few weeks back, was also given a coat of satinwood.

She stripped the windowsill too - and painted that white.

Wooden mirror up too
All that was left was to arrange the furniture and hang the picture and mirrors. I washed, pressed and rehung the curtains - and we are very pleased with the results!

We have also worked out how to use the fire!

The room is so much brighter now!

Agents clever shot of the dining room

Both pictures make the decoration look good - it wasn't!
The last two photos are the agents pictures - cleverly taken to show the room at its best - the missing skirting is hidden behind furniture or not in the shot. We removed the horrible built in TV unit a while back and painted out the blue frame - it looked a mess of holes once the owner had taken down her photos! The room feels clean and bright now and we are both very pleased with it!

Twenty One Months Today

Marcus is twenty one months today- and it has been a busy month with Christmas shopping, a new fence and decorating the lounge - all of which Marcus helped with!

Marcus continues to be active - still climbing and running everywhere. He enjoys helping - fetching things from the fridge, putting rubbish in the bin or tidying up his toys.

New words include nin (bin), is it?, do it and banana. He has a bit of an obsession with bins - pointing them out where ever we go! Marcus also loves waving at lorries, trains and planes. Bin day is his favourite day so he can watch the wheely bins being emptied!

Marcus is very strong willed and he wants particular people to do things for him - such as Sam holding his reigns or me reading the story. He will push the 'wrong' person away and point at who he wants to do the thing.

Bedtime routine has been a little disturbed recently as one of us has to go up to Marcus at least once each evening - but he sleeps through till at least 6.00 each morning.
Marcus still loves a bath - and having a shower with Mummy Sam at the weekend. Swimming lessons are still going well and Marcus enjoys being able to swim off with the float jacket on.
